a historic trip...

I was privileged enough this weekend to attend a beautiful military ceremony in historic Fredericksburg, VA for my cousin who is retiring from the Navy after 20 highly decorated years of service. He was a Lieutenant Commander for the Seabees and has traveled the world protecting our country putting his life on the line more times than I care to know..  I am so incredibly proud of him and the trip to Virginia is one I will never forget...
There was a stop we made on the way back north in Leesburg, Virginia that was almost equally exciting to see...

I was like an excited little kid when we pulled in!! I was actually at THE Lucketts - the place I had read about for years from Miss Mustard Seed!! It was a beautiful, very sunny day and I just took my time wandering though this massive place taking it all in... I took around 60 photos! Here are some of my favorites....

These were the outside vendors... How they styled and made use of old materials to create their little "huts" was pretty amazing!

The porch itself was packed full of goodies too...

Then I made my way inside... This large old house is made up of what must be hundreds of small rooms! You wind through it like a maze... You have to look in all directions with every step because there is something to see from top to bottom and in every nook and cranny!

The intense sun made photographing the rooms a challenge! And of course I was glad I got to see Marion's space before she moved out completely...

All of her paint products were 30% off which was a nice surprise! And of course I stocked up on a bunch of goodies!!

The entire trip was so memorable and amazing!

I am now in high gear getting ready for the Indie Arts & Vintage Marketplace in Carmel, Indiana! Less than two weeks to go!!

journaling the journey...

The incredibly creative group who make up the collaborative magazine and blog, FOLK have challenged bloggers to write journal entries each week of 2013. Each week is given a topic HERE to prompt your creative writing..

I love the idea of being pushed to think beyond the usual furniture posts and dig deeper and challenge myself to put some real thoughts and feelings down on "paper".

The first prompt is to reflect on the lessons learned in 2012 and how you will apply your new knowledge to 2013...

The word that sums up 2012 for me (and many many years prior) is FEAR.

Last year was one of the most difficult years of my whole life and was completely ruled by fear. Both personally and professionally.  As I was working my way through conquering my personal fears I found myself holding back professionally out of fear as well...
I was afraid to fail and I was afraid to succeed.

As a way to work through the personal fear I found myself creating art...

It was very different than the work I had done before... So along with that came more fear.
What if no one liked it? What if they never sold? What if people thought it was dumb?

I was proud of the new pieces I was creating. And the creative process of picking though the old bits and pieces I had collected and treasured for so long brought me peace. Thinking about what should go where and how, gave me a break from worrying about what was happening around me.

I loved that I was taking old forgotten bits and putting them together in a way that they became beautiful.

With nervousness, I set a price and put it out for the world to see...

Some dear friends - who are far more knowledgeable in vintage type art and who create the most successful breathtaking barn sales - loved them.

Hearing their encouraging words was exactly what I needed to silence the fear.

I am working on many new pieces and for once, I'm looking forward to seeing the reactions I get. I still have a lot of fear to conquer - but looking back on 2012 makes me realize I have come a LONG way!
My plans for 2013 are to take the things I learned about myself last year and run with it...
Whether I succeed or fail... Either way, I will have climbed the mountains of fear and came through the other side a better person for it!

my own best of 2012...

Everyone in the blog world is recapping 2012 and showing off their best of 2012 since we've rolled into the New Year..
Well, since this blog of mine is pretty new, I don't have a large list of posts from last year to pull from...
SO, I decided to share some of my favorite pieces I did in 2012. They were mostly done before I decided to dedicate real time and focus to this blog. Other than the finished pics you see, I don't have anything to show the process of working on them or any "how-to's"... The pics aren't really "blog" worthy - but these are some special pieces to me...

I am incredibly blessed to say every one of these has been sold and hopefully are special pieces in my customer's homes! I have so much success and growth to be thankful for in 2012 and are grateful beyond measure for the customers who make my success possible!!
I have some serious goals laid out for 2013 and I will get to that in a future post...
Thank you so much for looking through these pics and know that I absolutely LOVE what I do and appreciate that you make it possible for me to do it!
